24 Weeks!

Today marks 24 weeks of gestation, which is the currently accepted threshold of viability. Technically, this means that if the babies were born today, they would have a 50% chance of survival. Of course, babies born this early still have an extremely high likelihood of moderate or severe lifelong disabilities.

There’s certainly nothing any more special about today than yesterday so all this really means is that from now on, if something were to happen, we’d be sent to the hospital instead of to the clinic. And really, even if there were problems last week, we still would have taken ourselves to the hospital. However, now that we’re at 24 weeks, they may treat Molly differently.

While this marks a huge milestone, the next big one is just four weeks from now. By 28 weeks, the chance of survival is up to 90%. It’s pretty cool to think we really are going to have two babies! Watch for another belly shot post very soon…
